Flexible packaging, label and cartons solutions CPC is family-owned, dedicated to delivering a high-quality service across Europe and continually investing in new products and machinery. Emma-Jane Batey spoke to CEO Jonathan Schor to learn more.
Founded in 1986 by Jonathan Schor’s father, CPC has grown from a turnover of EUR10million in 1986 to EUR140million in 2013. The company’s growth has also seen its product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities develop rapidly, maintaining a focus on quality at all times. From 1990 onwards CPC expanded quickly throughout Europe. CEO Jonathan Schor told Packaging Europe, “We kept a clear focus on ensuring our business supplied excellent labelling and packaging solutions that meet the ever-growing requirements of our customers across Europe. Our turnover had reached EUR50million by 1990 and was up to EUR100million by 1995, helped by our strategic acquisitions such as CPC Cotentin in Normandy (formely named Cauchard) which enabled CPC to enter the flexible packaging market and this has certainly proved successful.”
Always growing
Further acquisitions followed, each boosting both the European profile and the product portfolio of CPC. In 2000, the company acquired German wet glue and self-adhesive labels manufacturer Haferkamp in Oldenburg and Norden, which meant that CPC took its place as one of the major players in the European labels business. Mr Schor continued, “We have continued to move onwards and upwards since, with additional capacity, further investment and an even-broader understanding of the flexible packaging and labels business throughout Europe.”
Today, CPC offers a large range of innovative and decorative packaging and labelling solutions to customers across Europe through a global offer (one-stop-shopping), with nine state-of-the-art factories and 750 employees. It offers wet glue labels, folding cartons and self-adhesive labels as well as flexible and shrink sleeve products, in-mould labelling and various leaflets, booklets and inserts. CPC global European and multi site offer allows flexibily, fast response and secures continuity of supplies for customers. All major printing processes are available to cover all CPC’s customers needs (gravure printing, offset, silkscreen, letterpress, uv flexo, hot foil, embossing, combination printing and multi layer lamination).
Active in excellence
The markets in which CPC is most active include dairy, ready meals and sauces, beverages, confectionery, pet food, home care/personal care and dry goods. Working with some of Europe’s leading brand owners sees CPC provide flexible packaging and label solutions for ice creams, yoghurts, toothpaste, shampoo, chewing gum and chocolate. Mr Schor noted that this broad range of applications for the company’s product range is supported by a common thread that runs throughout the organisation. He explained, “Our continual development of new ideas and products means that we are always able to offer the very best possible flexible packaging and labelling solution for our customers. We work together to understand how we can add value to their products through effective and attractive packaging.”
Recent investments at CPC include a new Roland 906LV sheet – fed printing machine, which will allow the CPC Valenciennes’ factory to better serve its customers in the cartons arena and, as part of its continuous improvements programme, will support better quality and colour management. CPC’s Norden factory has recently successfully commissioned a new slitter rewinder to enable the plant to further improve its self-adhesive labels service, and the CPC facility in Cotentin will soon see the completion of the plant extension with a new building topped up by a 3m€ investment programme to increase the capacity in printing, laminating and finishing: a new laminator is due to be commissioned in October and a new slitter in early 2015.
With continuous growth, ongoing investment and a solid blue-chip customer base across Europe, Mr Schor is understandably positive about the future. He concluded, “We expect to see further development in all of our active markets as we continue to deliver a quality-focused, effective product portfolio in flexible packaging and labelling, all supported by our excellent customer service and sales service.”
