Commercial property owner Land Securities is the latest to sign up to the Every Can Counts drinks can recycling scheme for its Willow Place & Corby Town Centre site.
Land Securities has more than 50 retail parks and shopping centres across the UK and Every Can Counts hopes that a successful venture in Corby will provide other opportunities to introduce the scheme elsewhere.
"Land Securities has a large retail portfolio and we've not tackled that before," said Diana Caldwell, marketing and communications manager at Alupro, which runs the scheme.
"There will a communications programme at Corby for the next 12 months at least and we're already talking to a couple of other sites."
Willow Place & Corby Town Centre is a 28-acre mixed-use site that has 174 retail units and Land Securities manages the waste collection for 112 retailers.
Marketing manager Nyasha Pitt said: "The ability to engage our shoppers and allow them to recycle their own cans in on easy push is just fabulous. We hope other sites will follow our lead."
Around 250 organisations across 600 sites are already signed up to the Every Can Counts scheme, and there are almost 3,000 branded collection points.
Schemes are being
Caldwell the next phase would include more detailed analysis of the impact to the scheme.
"We want to engage the people who are actually using the scheme to find a more detailed breakdown to establish the drivers for and barriers to drinks can recycling," she said.
