British Polythene Industries has announced that it has opened a new £4.5m waste wash plant at its Rhymney site in South Wales, to help strengthen its business.
The maker and recycler of polythene film products said the facility will be used to recycle waste such as agricultural films into products including refuse sacks and outdoor furniture.
It will enable BPI to recycle an additional 25,000 tonnes of waste material each year at its Rhymney factory in south Wales.
BPI Recycled Products business director Gerry McGarry said: “At BPI Recycled Products, we’re committed to facilitating more efficient, more sustainable means of UK-based recycling as well as to providing closed loop solutions wherever possible.
“The new plant at Rhymney will help to increase our already extensive recycling capabilities, bringing major benefits not only to our business, but also to UK recycling and to the environment as a whole.”
The facility, which the company says is one of the largest in Europe, was opened last week at a ceremony attended by representatives from the Environment Agency, Defra and the Welsh Government.
