Carton trade body unveils new guidelines
for food packs
The European Carton Makers Association (ECMA) has unveiled a series of guidelines designed for manufacturers of food packaging.
The Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guide for the carton making sector has been launched at the ECMA’s congress in Barcelona. The event starts today and runs until 17 September.
According to the ECMA, the guide covers key points including raw material intake, design for compliance and manufacturing as well as storage and delivery.
In addition, the GMP features a specific guidance chapter on inks. It also offers formalised company risk assessment procedures, designed to assist in the safety of food cartons.
“It [the GMP] illustrates our continued drive, as an industry, toward developing sustainable practices and high professionalism in food packaging,” said ECMA technical committee chairman Arend-Jan Luten.
